Premier League Tickets – FAQ
Common questions about attending a Premier League match as a tourist, plus information about MustWatchSport.
Buying Tickets
As a tourist, you have three main routes:
- Official club website — cheapest prices, but most high-demand matches require a membership.
- Official hospitality packages — sold by each club's hospitality team. No membership needed, includes a premium seat and often food and drink. More expensive but the most reliable route.
- Resale platforms It is illegal to buy resale tickets. They are often fake and you risk being scammed. Clubs have offical Ticket Exchanges where spare tickets can be bought. These can often be the best place to find tickets espcially if you aren't choosy about where in the stadium you sit, or if you are buying single tickets.
For the most popular clubs (Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City), general-sale tickets are extremely rare without membership. Hospitality or the clubs Ticket Exchange are the realistic options for a one-off visit. You will often need membership to get ticket exchange tickets.
The typical release order for each match is:
- Season-ticket renewal — May/June before the season begins
- Members-only sale — usually 4–8 weeks before the match
- General sale or Ticket Exchange — if tickets remain, typically 1–3 weeks before kickoff
For top clubs, most fixtures sell out at the members stage. Especially games such as Liverpool vs Manchester United etc. Even with membership, the ticket sale windows are often based on the number of games you've been to before. For smaller clubs or lower-profile fixtures, or mid-week games, general-sale tickets are often available up to matchday. Check the clubs Ticket Exchange even on the same day as the match. Be aware that fixtures can change at short notice due to television. Games can be moved anywhere from the Friday night to the Monday night. Sometimes games can be moved due to domestic cup or european cup competition fixtures.
Rarely. Most Premier League clubs have moved to fully digital ticketing and do not operate a matchday box office for general admissions. Ticket Exchange tickets can sometimes be bought on the same day as the match. You will not be able to turn up and buy tickets for EPL games. Plan ahead — ideally weeks in advance.
For the most popular clubs — Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham — most matches sell out at the members stage and never reach general sale. A club membership is effectively required for face-value tickets at these clubs.
Memberships for some of these clubs are open to overseas fans and cost around £25–£50 per year. If you plan your trip well in advance, buying a membership before tickets go on sale can be the most cost-effective route.
Prices & Costs
Official face-value prices vary by club and seat location:
- Smaller clubs — £30 to £60 for most matches
- Mid-tier clubs — £40 to £80
- Top clubs (Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City) — £50 to £100+
It is illegal to buy resale tickets. They are often fake and you risk being scammed. Some clubs do have hotel and ticket packages available. Hospitality packages at top clubs typically start around £250 and can exceed £500 per person, but they do guarantee that you will get a ticket. You do not need membership to purchase hospitality tickets.
Yes. Upper tiers are generally cheaper than lower tiers. Areas behind the goal (the ends) tend to be the most affordable but often are the most popular. The upper tier side stand is often the best value — you get a clear view across the full pitch at a lower price than the lower-tier sidelines. Each club guide on this site breaks down the best seats for tourists at different price points.
Official club websites sometimes charge a small booking fee (typically £1–£5 per ticket). Always check the final checkout total before confirming your purchase.
Best Clubs for Tourists
Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, and West Ham United are generally the most accessible for tourists — tickets are more often available without membership, and resale prices are lower.
Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea are the hardest — demand far outstrips supply for most home matches. Tottenham and Manchester United sit somewhere in the middle depending on the fixture.
Atmosphere, stadium quality, and ease of access all matter. Some highlights:
- Anfield (Liverpool) — widely considered the best atmosphere in English football.
- St James' Park (Newcastle) — enormous, loud, passionate fanbase and usually accessible for tourists.
- Emirates Stadium (Arsenal) — modern, impressive, with excellent transport links in North London.
- Tottenham Hotspur Stadium — one of the newest and best-equipped stadiums in the world.
- Villa Park (Aston Villa) — historic ground with a great atmosphere and relatively accessible tickets.
Resale & Hospitality
Each clubs offers an official place for season ticket holders to sell unwanted tickets. Often you will need a membership to buy these tickets too. There are some official thrid party tickets resellers that are authorised by the club. These are listed in Section 8 Tips for Tourists section. It is illegal in England to resell tickets unless throught the official website. You are likely to get scammed if you buy tickets from unathorised ticket sites. You have been warned.
Each club guide on MustWatchSport highlights which resale routes are allowed for that specific club. Only use official resale ticket sites. Do not use unathorised wesbites as you may well be scammed.
Hospitality packages are sold directly by clubs and include a premium seat plus perks such as a pre-match meal, drinks, and lounge access. No membership is required. Prices start at around £150 per person at smaller clubs and can exceed £500 at top clubs.
For a special occasion or a club where general tickets are impossible to get, hospitality is often the best-value route — especially when compared to paying inflated resale prices for a standard seat.
Matchday Tips
Arrive at least 45–60 minutes before kickoff — queues at turnstiles and security can be long, especially at larger stadiums. The grounds open 90 minutes before kick off. Bring valid photo ID if your ticket is registered in your name. Most stadiums are cashless inside, so have a contactless card or mobile pay ready. Increasingly tickets are digital, so ensure you have downloaded tickets before you get to the ground. Internet signal may be overloaded due to volume of people around.
Bags are restricted — most clubs only allow small bags under A4 size. Check the club's website for their specific bag policy before you travel. Alcohol is not permitted in view of the pitch in English football.
For standard seats there is no dress code. Replica shirts of the home team are common and perfectly fine. If you are seated in the away end, wearing home colours will cause issues — dress neutrally. It is not recommended. Like wise sitting in the home sections wearing an away team shirt will also likely lead you to being ejected. Fans of different teams are segregated inside the stadium due to risk of violence. Outside the stadium is normally ok to mix. You may get some comments if going past a large group of opposing supporters. Hospitality areas sometimes require smart-casual dress; check your booking confirmation.
Personal photos and short videos for non-commercial use are generally permitted. Professional cameras with detachable lenses, monopods, and tripods are almost always banned. Selfie sticks are prohibited at most grounds. Check the specific club's ground regulations if you are unsure.
